America's Last Stand
A Look at the three best missions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Call of Duty is synonymous with big action, spectacle, and over-the-top storytelling. At least the Post-WW2 games and the absolute peak of this era was the original Modern Warfare Trilogy.
Brief Recap:
Five years after the death of Imran Zakhaev, Russia is under the control of an Ultra-Nationalist/Soviet Nostalgic government. Meanwhile, General Shepherd, a high ranking American officer is deadset on finding and eliminating Makarov, a terrorist who is/was affiliated with the Ultra-Nationalists, though he’s more radical and has bigger plans. Basically, after a massacre by Makarov is framed on the Americans and the Russians capture a downed ACS=Module… Russia, believing America slaughtered their people, invade to get some payback.
Of There Own Accord
The first two missions taking place in Virgina are good in their own right, but the final trilogy of missions in D.C. is where it gets good. First off, to set the tone, we get an emergency alert broadcast telling people to evacuate. No intro cut-scene. Then we dive straight in to a bunker and the music and atmosphere is top notch. It’s filled with American soldiers working frantically as well as injured and dead men just piling up.
Here’s roughly the whole mission, minus a few minutes of the ending: Best Mission in the game in my opinion
You play as Private James Ramirez and the other two important characters in your Ranger squad are Corporal Dunn and Sargent Foley, the latter voiced by Captain Anderson of Mass Effect fame himself, the Goat Keith David. You three and the squad fight your way through the ruins of the Capital building to provide cover from a sniper spot to help with the evacuation. Eventually, you’re forced to flee on a blackhawk helicopter and continue supporting the evacuation until you’re shot-down.
Second Sun
The next mission actually takes place after a Task Force 141 mission where Captain Price sets off a nuke to blow up in the atmosphere causing an EMP effect that wipes out the Russian air support and gives the “bloody yanks” a fighting chance with that good ole fashioned American can-do spirit. Our squad regroups and eventually make their way to “Whiskey Hotel” the White House. The path there is oozing with atmosphere and eeriness. Burning wrecks and soon it storms, thunder and lightening and rain.
Whiskey Hotel
The final two missions from the Remastered MW2
Our squad has finally made it to the White House. Colonel Marshall has assembled what’s left of the U.S. forces to retake it from the Russians and the place still has power, so it’s vital our boys retake it. Bad news, the Hammer Down Protocol is a call-sign for a last resort to bomb the shit out of D.C., declaring it lost. So now our heroes must fight their way to the roof and set off green flares to abort the mission. The fight is brutal, but we make it to the roof and just in time. The jets see the flares and abort. What follows is a conversation between the Ranger who set off flares, Corporal Dunn, and Sargent Foley. Here’s the conversation:
Ranger: “So, when are we going to Moscow?”
Corporal Dunn: “Not soon enough man, but I know we’re going to burn it down when we get there.”
Sargent Foley: “When the time is right Corporal. When the time is right.”
Chills and shows the brutal cycle of vengeance and war and honestly as a red-blooded American, hell yeah, I’m right there with the Rangers. “RANGERS LEAD THE WAY!!!”
Very good analysis of these missions

Analysis:
I hope it’s pretty clear why this trilogy of missions is so legendary. The immersive, atmosphere, music, and voicing acting all come together to really make you believe like you’re actually fighting through the streets of this once great republic. And, regardless of what we think about America, it definitely made me patriotic and before anyone says anything. Yes. I’m well aware that the CIA and U.S. military ensure that gaming companies and Hollywood for that matter portray them as the mostly good guys. This shouldn’t stop us from enjoying these games however. As long as you’re not signing up for the U.S. Army or Marines, then I think you’re good. Lol!
Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this and now, it’s pretty late as I type this. So, goodnight and Peace!

These were good, but I still preferred the missions with Soap and Roach. I remember being so pumped when Price is revealed as the prisoner. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
This was such a great game. The DC missions were unforgettable. We didn't know how good we had it.
