Superman (2025)

A Review

Hello and welcome back again. I just got back from seeing Superman 2025 and I liked it. It wasn’t perfect and it sometimes can run a little quick and some jokes didn’t land for me, but overall it was good. A solid first entry in this 8-10 year James Gunn-led DC Universe. I’ll try not to spoil anything and I won’t recap, safe to say the gist of it is: Lex Luthor has an evil plan and Superman and the “Justice Gang” has to stop him along with Krypto the Super Dog who is adorable, dogs are my Kryptonite, lol!

First things first, the cast: David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman is a great fit. He embodies Truth, Hope, and Justice in the way Superman should. He’s also delightfully dorky as both Clark and the Man of Steel and he constantly goes out of his way to save everything and everyone. From a squirrel to kids and adults and this contrasts nicely with the members of the Justice Gang (God, I hope they change that name later on) Anyway, the Justice Gang is made up of Guy Gardner (played by Nathan Fillion) Hawkgirl (played by Isabela Merced) and Mr. Terrific (played by Edi Gathegi) They were good for their role as supporting cast members. Lois Lane (played by Rachel Brosnahan) was good as in her role and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor was great as well.

Now, my history with Superman:

I’m not a comic expert, I saw the original Superman with Christopher Reeves a long time ago, but my real love for Superman came from Smallville. Smallville was just something that could only have been made in the early 2000s and has all the cheese and coziness of the 2000s. And 2000s rock. Remy Zero kicks ass! (And so does Nickelback) By far the best part of Smallville was Clark and Lex’s friendship and how it began to how it fell. Michael Rosenbaum is up there with Clancy Brown as the best Lex Luthors out there. And whilst I liked 2025’s Clark and Lois, Tom Welling and Erica Durance in Smallville have no equal, they are the best Clark and Lois in my opinion. Another great Superman show is Superman and Lois, the last of the modern DCTV, what a way to end it. It started with Superman and ended with him. “Superman and Lois” was a great little four-season show that focused primarily on well, Clark Kent/Superman & Lois Lane and their sons and fellow townsfolk of Smallville. Superman faced off against villains such as his half-brother (who later redeemed himself) another threat was a woman and her double in an alternate universe. A crime boss and finally Lex Luthor and a new take on Doomsday being the alternate/Bizarro Superman being repeatedly killed over and over again until he becomes an unstoppable killing machine.

Overall, Smallville and Superman and Lois were 10/10’s and Superman 2025 is a solid 7.5/10.
